Knaresborough Forest, sponsored by Windsor Court Properties, saw their promotion hopes dased with a 20 run defeat to Darley.
With just two games of the season left, Forest had to take as many points from this fixture as they could. Visiting skipper Jon Milne won the toss, and Darley batted first.
Andy Lee and Dave Skaith opened up against Dave Bird and Graham Furniss.
Both bowled tight accurate lines in their opening spells. Furniss was lucky to survive an early sharp chance to first slip off of Lee, as Parker failed to cling on. He soon gained revenge though; a fullish ball swung back sharply to take his leg pole and Darley were 30-1.
Rob Hainsworth came in at 3,intent on playing his shots. Dave Bird meanwhile was feeling his way into the innings. A few crisp strokes through the offside got his innings under way. After 12 overs, Pyke replaced Lee and Horsman came on for Skaith. Hainsworth immediately greeted the arrival of the skipper with a copule of straight sixes,as he saught to up the ante.

Bird had managed to make his way to 36 before he became the second wicket to fall. Trying to sweep a ball which was far far too full, he played al around it and was lbw for 36.
Darley's talisman Chris Gill came out at 4, and their ability to post a competitive score really surrounded him.
He was aided somewhat by a diet of full tosses and half trackers served up in the early portion of his innings, as he helped himself to the very small boundary.
Drinks came and went, and then so did Hainsworth for 27. Trying to clear long-off one too many times, he could only pick out the safe hands of Phil Arrand and Darley were 103-3. It was soon 104-4 when Horsman beat Rice (0) for pace and sent his middle pole cartwheeling.

Forest should have had a fourth wicket soon after. Gill tried to drive a straight ball from Horsman, but he missed and as his foot hovered in the air and out of is ground, Robson removed the bails. Only for the (non-league) umpire at square leg to bottle it and deem him not out. Gill took this as his cue to cut loose, and meted out some punishment to Horsman, lofting him onto the hil of the beer garden. He motored past 50, and aided by some very astute stroke play from young Joe Furniss took the score past 150. eyeing a minimum score of 200, Gill tried to clear the ropes again off of the returning Skaith, but could only find the buckets of Nick Horsman to depart for 73 and leave the visitors 173-5.

Jon hayton joined Furniss for the remaining few overs, and it was just matter of seeing how many they could get. they succesfully negotiated the final overs to post a reachable 202-5.

A confident Forest opening pair of Jim Skaith and Matt Parker strode out after tea in search of 6 points. They started like a house on fire, well Parker did anyway. Finding the short boundary appealing, Sands and Beecroft dished up a diet of half trackers and wayward dross as the openers rattled along at 8 runs per over in the opening exchanges. Indeed, Parker had 50 out of the first 62 runs scored.
skaith began to find his feet after a slow start and the pair cruised towards a 100 opening stand. Joe Furniss' slow left arm replaced Beecroft,and he picked up Skaith for 29, nipping one through his defences (93-1). This proceeded a mad 10 minute spell where Forest lost a further 3 runs for just 3 wickets. Firstly Jack Martin (1) lobbed one to mid-on and set off for a run. As the fielder dropped the skier Martin tried to steal a second, however after being sent back by a hesitant Parker, he was beaten by Beecroft's direct hit. Next, Phil Arrand completely mistimed a pull shot and was caught off of Rice for 0, and finally Parker departed for 60 after being caught off of the same bowler.

Cullingworth, moved down the order from his usual number 3 position to number 6, came out to join David Skaith with still over 100 runs required. Digging in as Darley smelt blood, the pair added 29 for the fifth wicket. Cullers ticked around to left the Wolfman have the strike. The score had reached 137 before Skaith became Rice's third victim, and he deaprted for 30.
Robson joined Cullingworth with hopes still of knocking off the runs. They added 12 before Cullingworth became the second to succumb to a direct hit. Robson drove a ball to Gill on the short off-side boundary. Cullingworth sensed there was a run and set off, but Robson sent him back as Gill picked up on the half volley and threw down the stumps to leave Cullers stranded for 12 (149-6). Nick Horsman, in at 8 came and went in the space of three balls. Two blazed fours to the midwicket boundary off of Rice saw him underway, but as he tried to mow a ful-toss over mid-ff, Sands took a spectacular leaping catch to his left, and the Gold Leaves were looking down the barrel at 147-7.

With just under 50 to win with 3 wickets left, Stew Pyke was Forest's last home of seeing his side home. Hainsworth replaced the effective but expensive Rice, with Gill replacing Furniss, who was unlucky not to pick up Robson as he was dropped off his own bowling by himself, and Bird at short midwicket.
It was the introduction of Hainsworth which was to have the final say in the game. Firstly Pyke (2)tried to turn a ball into the leg-side and could only watch open mouthed as Gill flung himself to his left to catch the ball, drop it, and then catch it whilst lying on the floor to leave the home side 178-8.
Next, a ball reared from a length and cliiped the shoulder of the bat, and Gill running in from square leg held a much easier chance (192-9). And the game was over when Lee edged behind to Graham Furniss for 0 and leave Forest 182 all out with Craig Robson unbeaten on 29.

2011 = AN OUTSTANDING SEASON
I think its safe to say "We're Back!!"
Promotion for KFCC 3rds in thier first season.
Promotion for KFCC 2nds and agonisingsly close for KFCC 1sts back to back promotions.
Its a great feeling after such a stuggle in recent years.
The foundations are now there for a steady feed of players from our juniors, some of which have already played a significant part in the 3rd team.
I am already looking forward to next season, can't wait!
Importantly, we need to focus on progression between teams, a willingness from all to play for any team when asked is a must. Its been very difficult for captains, when individuals have thier own preferences, so I ask that whatever reasons you may have, set them aside and sign up to the whole club.
I'm looking forward to The Annual Dinner on 22nd October, Alex Lambley from our main sponsor Windsor Court Properties has agreed to present the trophies again, it should be another memorable evening. Please send your forms to me asap. If anyone fancies making a guest appearance as DJ, let me know.
